New Yorkers are stepping up pressure on Gov. Cuomo to back out of an immigrant fingerprint-

sharing program-just like the Illinois governor. States who take part in Secure Communities

automatically send to Homeland Securities the fingerprints of everyone who is booked.

The Federal Government says the program is to find and deport dangerous criminals,

opponents say the program sweeps up low-level offenders and even domestic violence victims.

TRAFFICKING VICTIMS’ WAIT FOR CITIZENSHIP IS REDUCED.

Victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation no longer have to wait in limbo while their

captors are prosecuted. The Federal Government has decided that those lured here for jobs, then

forced into prostitution, can apply to live and work here legally.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said victims can apply for a status called deferred

action while the court cases are still going on. They may also get fees waived. Trafficking victims

who help the police investigate their employers are also able to get special visas.

AN IMMIGRANT CRUSHED.

A West African immigrant was crushed to death in the Bronx in a freak accident while loading a vehicle into a container truck, the NYPD said. The life of Abdul Barry, 49, came to a  gruesome end as he moved the Toyota pickup-bound for resale in Africa-into a container hooked up to a truck cab, witnesses said.

 

Barry was standing inside the container when chains that suspended the truck above him snapped and sent the vehicle crashing down on him. He was a former cab driver in Africa, immigrated from West Guinea in 2005, leaving behind his wife and a daughter who is now 11.

NEW YORK STATE GETS SEVEN MILLION IN ILLEGAL-ALIEN DEAL.

New York law-enforcement agencies have begun collecting their one-third portion of a near

$21 million settlement from a national pallet-recycling company that employed 6,000 illegal

aliens in 26 states.

 

The investigation, which began upstate, was based on a truck driver’s tip and led to the April 2006

raids at more than 40 IFCO system plants. At least 1,100 people were arrested on immigration

charges. The company settled this federal case in 2008.
