THE PURPOSE DRIVEN WOMAN A Child Needs You……….. 

It seems to me that our purpose has been clearly defined for us. We do somehow manage to forget for long periods of time only to be reminded when some event around us, natural disasters or confrontation with other people’s situation occurs. Whichever way it happens for our memory to be joggled, it always signifies time for action. The actions that will give each person peace are different. To some, it may be like Rahab in the Bible who yielded to the voice of the Holy Spirit within her and shielded the spies who came to the land of Canaan. Her action saved her entire household.  Some of us may have the desire to come to someone’s rescue and intervene in a situation such as was in Israel when there was a famine and two women decided to take turns eating their won children because of hunger. After they ate the child of one, the other refused to give up her child. Such heart breaking story! Imagine if as a woman you lived in that time and season. What would you do? I am sure that nonchalance is not the first option.  I’m talking about the issue of adoption.      As I watched the news of the earthquake disaster in the country of Haiti, and saw the pictures of babies scattered all over the place with no parents, no knowledge of what is going on around them, and everyone not having a clue about what tomorrow holds for them, something broke within me that I have been dealing with, wondering like the rest of the world what action to take. I have seen mothers and fathers too hold on so tight to their children that even when other people especially a childless woman is trying to love them she is seen as a suspect that is trying to steal them. The love that is released towards the child is thrown back in your face and you are left to wonder what you did wrong.  You really didn’t do anything wrong.  You were only trying to help other people raise their children and your actions were misinterpreted because of the parents’ own insecurity.        In some African culture the children may even be told not to receive gifts from a childless woman so that you do not somehow supernaturally steal their affection or change their destiny for that of the son or daughter that you are expecting. All of these sounds very incomprehensible but try to remember the story of Leah and Rachel or that of Hannah and Peninnah in the Bible. The book of 1 Samuel 1:6 states concerning Hannah, “her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the Lord had shut up her womb.” The case of Rachel was also very pathetic. Genesis chapter 30 verse 1 shows her desperation when she said to Jacob her husband, “Give me children or else I die” Take it from someone who knows, the pain associated with all of these can be debilitating. The good news is that there are children crying out now for help with no one in their lives to compete for their attention.  Call to Action!   The book of Proverbs Chapter 19 verse 17 states, “caring for the poor is lending to the Lord and you will be well repaid. (Contemp. English version)  God is calling on us to help orphans all over the world. All the energy spent agonizing over not having your own children or over other people’s children who only see you as mother for the season that they need you can be put into loving and caring for an orphaned child who with proper nurturing can be an asset to the society and to the kingdom of God.  If you are a childless woman or you are the mother of children, I am sure there is room in your heart and life for one more child.
