“Obama Will Win Again in 2012 If…”
Up till now, a year after the inauguration of the first black president of the United States, the record of President Barack Obama on immigration is nothing to write home about. USI News will give a grade of C- to President Obama on immigration for year 2009. During the election, the pomp and pageantry of one of the most moving inaugural ceremonies ever conducted in the United States, President Obama was presented to the American people particularly to immigrants as a symbol of freedom from the second slavery called “illegal immigration”. The president promised that by the fall of 2009, there will be a comprehensive immigration reform that will usher in a new era of freedom from the mental slavery immigrants endure in the U.S. In fact the President declared in one of his speeches saying, “I am a man of my words”, but alas, here we are in 2010. The United States of America is a country where government officials are held accountable to their promises. Ask Gov. Corzine in New Jersey and you will hear tales of broken promises that led to his demise as the Governor even though Democrats are supposed to be ruling in New Jersey. Under President Obama, more immigrants are now in removal proceedings compared to President Bush we all tagged as bad. I was in one of the courts in New York recently and the Judge adjourned a case to May 2012 as a result of the congestion in the Court. It was like the tap of deportation has just been turned on. I do not like this subtle oppression of immigrants. Under Bush, it was common place knowledge that Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents went after criminal immigrants first, but now no one is spared. The thought of being in removal proceedings is killing many immigrants slowly through high blood pressure or how else would you describe mental slavery. I come in contact with these immigrants daily and I think something must be done. If Obama continues on this path, we have no reason to blame Bush. Under President Obama, many immigrants now need to report on a monthly basis to the Department of Homeland Security, some are wearing security bracelets to monitor them on daily basis. These immigrants do not know which trip to the Immigration and Custom Agency will be their last. This is not what we expect from a “brother”. However, I would like to add that it is not too late for President Obama to redeem his image by pushing for the passage of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform. If the bill is passed, President Obama will win again in 2012, if he fails to pass the immigration bill now, he will loose woefully in 2012. There is no sentiment about this. He is either for us or against us. This prediction is backed by statistics. Today, the Republican Party through Fox News and other Radio Talk Shows has whipped up enough sentiment against President Obama. They have called him various names regarding many issues. The opinion polls show that his approval ratings are going down fast. Among the independent voters who voted him into power his approval rating is going downhill. The daily Gallup poll shows that his approval rating is below 50%. Among whites, he has about 37% now while maintaining 98% among blacks. Unfortunately, the blacks alone cannot guarantee his victory otherwise; Gov. Corzine will still be Governor in New Jersey now. The only block of voters who can help Obama win in 2012 are the immigrants. If you combine the immigrants in the United States, legal and illegal together with 98% blacks, 37% whites and at least 70% liberals, Obama will cruise to victory in 2012 despite the current lows. The passage of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform is critical to his victory or he would have to kiss the White House goodbye. Imagine if all the estimated 12million illegal aliens are legalized, all their brothers and sisters who are currently citizens of the United States will vote en masse for Obama come 2012. There is a bill in Congress now that could guarantee Obama’s victory in 2012. All he needs to do is push it to pass. Some Republicans like John McCain have committed themselves in the past to Comprehensive Immigration Reform, they cannot go back on their pledge, and therefore, to secure the much needed filibuster now, 60 votes in the Senate will not be a challenge as with the health care bill. Let someone tell Obama, it’s time to act, enough of empty promises please. On December 15, 2009, Representative Luis V. Gutierrez was joined by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC) and more than 90 House Democrats to introduce the Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity (CIR ASAP) Act of 2009, H.R. 4321. According to them, the legislation will secure our nation's economy, keep families together and secure our borders while fixing our broken immigration system. President Obama needs to immediately join these bold legislators to push this bill into law. Apart from the various security measures put in place in the bill towards the prevention of future illegal immigration to the United States, this bill will put an end to the enslavement of immigrants currently tagged “illegals” in the United States. Some of the detailed provisions of the bill are discussed in the other article in this news paper, but it will suffice to mention that any illegal alien that can establish entry into the United States before December 15, 2009, attest to having made contributions to the U.S. through employment which could be a volunteer position, pay a fine of $500 will be issued a non-immigrant visa that will be valid for six years. Eventually these immigrants will be able to adjust their status to those of permanent resident aliens. It is important that all immigrants write or call their representatives in Congress and ask them to support the new Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
