Everybody in life searches for the recipe to use in order to live long while enjoying riches and honor at the same time. Just like you, I am one of such people. Thank God, we need to search no further. I have the recipe now and I am glad to share it with you in this write-up.

The recipe is in the book on your shelf. Yes, in the book. “Which book?” The BIBLE on your shelf, in your hands or pocket book, under your pillow, in your vehicle and where else you keep it.

Open your bible to Proverbs 3:13-20 and you’ll see the recipe for long life, riches and honor spelt out right there.

It reads thus: “Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding; For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left. She will guide you down delightful paths; all her ways are satisfying. Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly. By wisdom the Lord founded the earth; by understanding he created the heavens. By his knowledge the deep fountains of the earth burst forth, and the dew settles beneath the night sky.” NKJV

From this passage, you can deduce that WISDOM is the recipe for longevity, riches and honor; therefore, one ought to seek and find wisdom and understanding if these things are to be enjoyed.

First, allow me to state that KNOWLEDGE is the mere acquisition of fact / information; while UNDERSTANDING at the moment one finds the meaning of the fact / information. Then WISDOM sets in. Wisdom is to know what to do next with the fact / information that you now have or understand.

Hence, the person who has knowledge becomes a scholar; the person who has understanding is able to formulate principles; and the person who has wisdom is able to take actions by applying those principles.

Having this clarity implies that knowledge is nothing without understanding and wisdom. Likewise it becomes clear that one could know and understand but still do dumb things.

Therefore wisdom is the ultimate and we need to know its source and how to obtain it. The bible says, “Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly. By wisdom the Lord founded the earth; by understanding he created the heavens.”(Prov. 3:18-19) NKJV.

What type of wisdom & understanding are we referring to?

• It is the wisdom and understanding of God’s will which makes it possible for one to please God and bear fruit in good works – Col. 1:9-10
• It is the understanding and wisdom of the mysteries of God’s ways – 1 Cor. 2:6-10

Source of Wisdom & Understanding

The Holy Spirit is the source of godly wisdom – 1 Cor. 12:8. I advise that you seek the face of the Lord this year and receive the in-filling of the Holy Spirit. As He gives you wisdom, it becomes possible for you to make wise decisions and live right, then honor, riches and long life will follow.

How to obtain wisdom and understanding

All you have to do is ask – James 1:5. This scripture says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” You see that God is generous and willing to give. He also will not reproach you when you ask. Take the step today; ask the Holy Spirit of God to give you godly wisdom.

What do wise people do?

In case you wonder how you can know whether or not you are living wisely, read the following statements and scriptures:

• Wise people preach the gospel – Prov. 11:30. If you find that witnessing Jesus is not something you delight in, then you need wisdom.
• Wise people accepts rebuke – Prov. 9:8. How do you react to rebuke / corrections?
• Wise people hear the word of God and ACT on them - Mat. 7:24. Do you find yourself doing what the word of God prescribes (commands) or you only choose what is convenient?
• Wise people listen to advice – Prov. 12:15. How are you doing in this area?
• Wise people watch what they say – Prov. 16:23. Do you say anything that comes to mind and everything you know?
• Wise children listen to their parents' instructions – Prov. 13:1. Are you a child who obeys your parents?
• Wise people walk with wise people – Prov. 13:20. Who do you associate with?

Of course the bible gives us more indications of wisdom acts. May the Holy Spirit fill you with more wisdom and understanding in Jesus name. Please note that any actions contrary to the godly ones listed above are foolish.

The bible says if you can get understanding and God’s wisdom, which make you bear good fruit, you will have long life and become happy, rich and honorable – Prov. 3:13, 16

Pray now that the Lord will endow you with this kind of understanding and wisdom in Jesus name.
